Hi! I am Lesia Duda, the founder of the "Tsvit" school

PhD, sociolinguist, and Ukrainian mum living abroad
The idea of creating an international online school started with my first lectures in 2013. This was followed by Ukrainian lessons for adults and younger students, international projects to survey Ukraine's language policy, and video projects about linguocide and children's language. In this photo, you can find my daughter Khrystia sitting next to me. A year before the full-scale war, Radio Svoboda called her "the youngest teacher of Ukrainian for preschoolers". Today, Khrystia is also a student at the "Tsvit" school.
I am sure that Ukrainian children, who are today called 'children of the war', are in fact 'children of the Victory' — the Victory of a renewed Ukraine. These children are the current blossom of the Ukrainian nation.
Let’s create the #blossom_of_the_nation together!

Our Mission

We all share a common responsibility to preserve the Ukrainian identity of our children who live abroad these days!

What does "Tsvit" mean?

The first meaning of the word "tsvit" in Ukrainian embodies the process of natural development and growth of plants that will eventually bear fruit. In its second meaning, "tsvit" refers to the best people in a particular social environment. That is why we have the expression: "Our tsvit is all over the world..."
Today, because of the war, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are fleeing their homes to save the lives of their children and to rebuild Ukraine with renewed strength.
Therefore, our mission is to help Ukrainian children preserve their national identity through the study of culture, language and literature.
After all, our children are the current tsvit of the Ukrainian nation, which will live in a peaceful and prosperous Ukraine.

FAQ

  • Tsvit School offers classes for children starting from the age of 4.
    In individual cases, we may consider enrolling children from the age of 3 — under the supervision of a child psychologist and with the mandatory presence of one parent. It is important to us that young children are naturally engaged in the online learning process, and that digital technologies are used in an age-appropriate and healthy way during early childhood.

    We form groups for the following ages: 4–5 years, 5–6 years, 7–9 years, 10–12 years, and 13+ years.
    Group placement is determined according to age and the child’s level of Ukrainian language proficiency.

  • We specialize in teaching children from preschool to teenage age.
    Our school also offers a conversation club for parents of our students, as well as for adults who wish to maintain their level of Ukrainian while living abroad.

  • To sign up for free trial lessons, you just need to leave your contact details in the "Try for free" registration form in the header of the website. After that, the educational department of our school will contact you to agree on the details of the free lessons schedule.

  • The first two lessons are trial and free of charge so that you can get acquainted with the format of our classes. If you and your child like it, the cost of further learning under the "Basic" plan is $126 per month.
    This price includes: two Ukrainian language lessons per week; additional classes dedicated to Ukrainian traditions and culture; all learning materials after each lesson; progress monitoring with the support of a school psychologist; and periodic written reports for parents on the child’s learning progress with tailored recommendations.

    Other available plans:
    "Starter" – 1 lesson per week – $72 per month;
    "Full" – 3 lessons per week – $183 per month;
    "Individual" – one-on-one lessons with a personalized schedule and curriculum – $19.50 per lesson.

    The school also offers a discount system and educational scholarships.

  • The program is based on an integration of the curriculum standards of the New Ukrainian School (NUS), the Standard Educational Program for teaching children abroad (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated August 7, 2025), and the school’s own author-developed program, which is grounded in methods of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language and as a heritage language.

    The primary focus of the curriculum is the development of the student’s communicative language skills. Therefore, the program includes activities aimed at expanding vocabulary, improving pronunciation, developing reading and listening comprehension in Ukrainian. For students with an intermediate level of language proficiency, writing is also included. The curriculum is thematic: topics are formulated and organized in accordance with the student’s interests and practical communicative needs.

    Alongside language lessons, every Saturday we hold conversation and reading clubs, workshops, and meet-and-greet sessions with contemporary Ukrainian authors within the framework of the “ЦВІТові Saturdays” project. The monthly event schedule is published on the school’s official social media pages.
